Remember when you were 27 and performing in the musical, ‘I Can’t Sing!’ which closed early, nine and a half months early, and you were panicking that you weren’t going to find another job? How you were going to pay your bills? What you were going to do next? Well it all turned out for the best. Remember when you auditioned for ‘Memphis’ a couple of months after ICS closed? It was the only option you had, your nerves were unrelenting and that was your only shot at getting a job that would give you the security you needed. Remember how much pressure you put on yourself? I do…
You arrived at Dance Works in Bond Street to audition for the only role that was left to be cast. Your nemesis was there along with four other people. Six auditionees and only one position available. Everything was resting on this one casting. The dance call was up first. You told yourself you weren’t as good as her, your main competition, but you still executed the moves to the best of your ability. Next up was the singing round. ‘Move’ from Dreamgirls was your song and you were ready to give it your all. As always, your trusty Rescue Remedy soothing pastilles helping to subside the nerves and lubricate the vocal chords before the big sing, a ritual that will never be omitted. Your name was called, you went in and the notes on the piano began to play. You sang your little heart out and left the fate of your next job and future in the hands of the three people that were sat on the panel, judging you. You waited and waited for the call and a week later it came: “Unfortunately, you were not successful this time round…” Your stomach churned, you heart sank and your eyes watered. That was your once chance and clearly you blew it.
Well, Scarlette, little did you know that that was the best thing that could have ever happened to you, a blessing in disguise, because if you were successful in getting that job, you would not be where you are today; living the dream you’ve wanted for years. You are a 2x award winning Television Presenter and things are going really well for you. You’re healthy, happy and humble and big things are coming for you. Your anxiety has calmed down and you’re more confident than you have ever been. Now you sing and dance for fun with no added pressure and your life is truly something to behold!
