Tips for juggling Jobs

Our minds are full of clutter and chaos with pressure at work and endless to-do lists at home. Work stress can cause worry and anxiety, and have serious health impacts if not addressed early. De-cluttering your mind can help to dust off the grey matter and make space for peace and relaxation. Try these simple techniques to relieve stress and improve your work-life balance:

1. Just Breathe

Deep breathing is one of the best ways to stay calm and clear a cluttered mind. Take a few deep breaths and really focus on your breathing. Concentrate as you fill your lungs with air and then as you breathe out. This will have a calming effect and help negative thoughts to float away. You can also try some of our favourite breathing exercises listed here.

2. Eliminate Tasks One by One

Sometimes having a long list of jobs to do can feel overwhelming. Review your to-do list and pick a couple of simple things that you are able to complete  each day, ticking tasks off as you complete them to give yourself a sense of achievement. You should also allow yourself to remove any items that have become unnecessary or irrelevant over time. Less on your list = less on your mind, making it easier to focus on your busy day.

3. Take a Walk

Walking outside not only changes your surroundings to give you a mental break, but also helps to get things off your mind while doing some physical activity. Exercise releases endorphins, the body's “feel good” chemicals, and is one of the best ways to relieve pressure at work or at home. If possible, take a walk outside in the daylight for the added benefit of topping up your vitamin D. When you're short on time, try incorporating a short walk into your commute by parking further away from the office or getting off the bus a stop earlier.

4. De-clutter your surroundings

A tidy house or desk helps to keep your mind focused. Being surrounded by clutter can occupy part of your mind, even if you don’t realise it. So take a few minutes to de-clutter your surroundings and your mind will feel clearer too. Invest in a good filing system to keep everything organised while you work, and try to create dedicated spaces to keep all of your personal items at home. If you have anything that you no longer use or want, consider recycling or donating it to a charity.
